When was the last time you got your hearing tested? If you are like most people, getting a hearing test is not top on your list of priorities. However, a hearing test is an important part of your medical record. Moreover, your hearing is an important part of your overall quality of life. When you cannot hear well, it may be difficult to participate in conversations with friends and loved ones, and normal daily activities such as watching television or speaking on the phone may become difficult or frustrating.
Get a free hearing test in Mississippi with a visit to your local Miracle-Ear hearing center. Tom Farrar, who owns Miracle-Ear offices in Hattiesburg, Jackson and Meridian, says that the free hearing test is designed to pinpoint hearing loss and determine the best plan of action for patients.
?What we?re aiming to do is explore their communication difficulties,? he says. Farrar says the free hearing test can help uncover hearing loss, and based on the test findings, trained hearing consultants will make the appropriate recommendations. Farrar says the test generally lasts about an hour. Bring a companion with you to the test, says Farrar. ?We absolutely want someone who?s familiar with their hearing or has an interest in their hearing health.?
How often should someone get their hearing tested? Farrar says that even someone with no apparent hearing loss should get tested at least every two years. He recommends that everyone over 60 years of age get tested in order to establish a baseline reading.
Farrar says it?s a mistake to wait until your hearing gets worse before coming in to get tested. A hearing test won?t stop hearing loss in its tracks, but it can put you on the right path to improved hearing and good hearing health. ?If people say ?Yeah, I?ve lost a little hearing, but it?s not enough. I get by.? That?s the best time to do something about it,? he says. ?We do two things: we help people hear better. We also help them retain their understanding. Without help, you can lose the ability to understand.?
Be proactive about your hearing health with a visit to your local Mississippi Miracle-Ear hearing center for a free hearing test. A hearing test can uncover hearing loss and help you find the right hearing solution for your lifestyle.
?People come to us because they?re not able to participate anymore,? says Farrar. ?They?re hearing loss is affecting their ability to participate. We help them participate again.?
